It’s crazy that this needs to be reminded. Still, here we are…

BPD Community Advisory: In recent weeks, the Boston Police Department has received several reports of motor vehicles being stolen after they were left running and unattended by the operator. While many victims are local delivery drivers, other incidents involve residents who started their vehicles to warm them up or defrost the windows as we begin to experience cooler temperatures in the overnight and early morning hours.

Not only is this a citable offense in the City of Boston, but the driver is also left vulnerable to possible vehicle theft. Drivers should never under any circumstances leave their motor vehicle running while unattended. Remember, a cold car is better than no car at all.
