Visitors can stroll amongst hundreds of dazzling lanterns

Boston, Mass. – This summer, visitors to Franklin Park Zoo will once again enjoy a memorable evening experience with hundreds of luminous, beautifully crafted large-scale lanterns when Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience, presented by National Grid, opens on July 22 for its third year.

Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience has been incredibly popular, so we are thrilled to bring this unique experience back to Franklin Park Zoo,” said Bob Chabot, Zoo New England Chief Operating Officer. “We look forward to welcoming both new and returning visitors of all ages as they immerse themselves in the beauty of the lights. This year, we’re offering visitors a glimpse into outer space, as well as lanterns inspired by the beauty of the natural world.”

Spanning the 72 acres of Franklin Park Zoo, Boston Lights will impress visitors with more than 55 large scale displays comprised of hundreds of colorful lanterns, featuring many sparkling new additions with a few returning favorites. As guests stroll the zoo, they will see luminous scenes from the rainforest, whimsical ocean displays with creatures of the deep, glowing corridors of lotus and bamboo, traditional Asian lanterns and a stunning 66 foot long rose corridor. New this year is a colossal 82-foot-long octopus tunnel with eyes that open and tentacles that change color, sure to dazzle and delight guests of all ages.

Boston Lights will also shine a light on the importance of conserving the incredible biodiversity on our planet. Visitors to Boston Lights will have the opportunity to learn more about our commitment to conservation and ways that they can participate in wildlife and habitat preservation. All of the lanterns are illuminated with energy saving LED lights.
