(Dorchester, MA) June 21, 2021 – The Boston Firefighters Credit Union (BFCU) has awarded two College Scholarships and two High School Scholarships to children and grandchildren of first responders. The BFCU created this scholarship as a way to ease the stress for families who are trying to manage the cost of education. The College scholarship is given to students who are dependents or descendants of any BFCU member past or present and will be attending an educational institution full time in the fall. The recipients were drawn randomly.
The College Scholarship recipients were Matthew Perachi of Medfield who will be attending the University of Vermont and William Sears of Carver, who will be attending the Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall. The High School scholarship recipients were Bridget and Madeline Ryan of West Roxbury who will be attending Mount Alvernia High School in the fall.
“BFCU has provided four scholarships annually to the family members of our members. We provide two $5,000 college scholarships and two $1,000 high scholarships to deserving students. We are proud to provide a small level of assistance to the families of our members. We know that education is costly yet we realize that it is the ticket to tomorrow for many of these young men and women. BFCU is proud to invest in their future and in doing so to invest in the future of our community”, said Bernie Winne President and CEO of the Boston Firefighters Credit Union.
The Boston Firefighters credit union is committed to providing a needed personal touch to manage the unique needs and lifestyle of firefighters, police and others and that includes taking care of their loved ones. The BFCU has a vision for the future, a future where it is imperative for BFCU to provide ALL services as a one-stop-shop for members while retaining its personalized service that impacts the lives of first responders and their families.
