Boston City Council has voted unanimously to pass a ban on the use of facial surveillance technology in the city. The vote took place on Wednesday around 12:45pm. City Councilors Michelle Wu and Ricardo Arroyo proposed the ordinance.
Boston will officially ban the use of the technology and prohibit any city official from obtaining facial surveillance through third parties. Behind San Francisco, Boston is now the second largest city in the world to ban facial recognition technology.
