Boating Crash off of Castle Island now a death investigation

Investigation Update: At about 3:06 AM on Saturday, July 17, 2021, members of the Boston Police Harbor Unit responded in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Boston Fire Department, Massport Fire and Boston EMS following a call for a boat crash in the Boston Harbor.

On arrival, responders were able to rescue several people from the water and then began a search for a missing individual who was later recovered from the water and pronounced deceased. The victim has since been identified as Jeanica Julce, 27, of Somerville.

The Boston Police Department is actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident and is asking anyone with information relative to this investigation to contact Boston Police Homicide Detectives at (617) 343-4470.

The Boston Police Department will stringently guard and protect the identities of all those who wish to assist this investigation in an anonymous manner.

Around 3am on Saturday, BFD responded to call for a boating accident in Boston Harbor off the coast of Castle Island.  Seven people have been rescued and one person is still missing. Five people were transported to area hospitals.

An interagency search is currently ongoing with US Coast Guard, Massport, BPD, State Police and BFD.
