Calling all birdwatchers!
Looking for a weekend adventure that mixes hiking, birdwatching, and a little local exploration? The Franklin Park Coalition has you covered with a free Bird Hike through one of Boston’s biggest green spaces on Saturday, October 25th, from 9AM to 12PM.
Led by “Nature Man Mike” and the Franklin Park crew, this guided walk will take participants through some of the park’s most scenic spots — including the Wilderness Area, Overlook Ruins, Scarboro Hill, and the Pond. Expect a blend of hiking, birding, and discovering the hidden beauty of Franklin Park — all in one morning.
Beginners are more than welcome (and encouraged!) to join. No registration is needed — just show up, bring your curiosity, and if you have them, a pair of binoculars. A few loaners will be available on-site.
What to know before you go:
-
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes — you’ll be walking up to 4 miles on paved, dirt, and rocky terrain.
-
Restrooms are available at the Franklin Park Golf Course Clubhouse.
-
In the event of heavy rain, the hike will be canceled.
Meet-up spot: Next to the tennis courts by the Shattuck Picnic Grove on Circuit Drive (just Google “Shattuck Picnic Grove, Boston MA”). There’s street parking nearby, and it’s accessible via the Orange Line’s Forest Hills stop.
