BC High Expanding to Include Sixth Grade Beginning in 2027

Big changes are coming to Boston College High School.

According to the Boston Globe, the longtime Jesuit all-boys school in Dorchester plans to add a sixth-grade class beginning in the fall of 2027.

School leaders say the move is designed to connect with students earlier during important middle school years while giving them more time to grow academically, socially, and spiritually within the school’s Jesuit tradition. BC High currently serves grades 7–12, with its Arrupe Division already focused on middle school students.

In a statement shared with the Globe, BC High President Grace Cotter Regan said the decision reflects the school’s commitment to “care for the whole person” by reaching students earlier in their development. School officials also noted that many school systems across Greater Boston now begin middle school in sixth grade.

The expansion comes after more than a year of planning and research, with the school’s Board of Trustees officially approving the addition earlier this year.
