After an extremely busy day in our business district on Saturday, some bars and restaurants have decided to close for safety reasons. St. Patrick’s Day weekend is normally one of the busiest weekends of the year. No word whether Dorchester bars and restaurants will close.
According to Ed Flynn, Boston City Councilor, District 2 – all bars and restaurants have been asked to voluntarily close for Sunday.
“We are in unchartered waters and all need to heed the advice of public health professionals to help stop the spread of COVID-19. It’s imperative that we all do all that we can now to keep our communities safe in the weeks to come. Stay safe and be well,” said Flynn.
Dear Southie – our teams at Backyard Betty’s and Publico have strived to offer our neighborhoods a place of comfort and fun in light of the these uncertain times. However, for the safety of our guests, our team, and anyone in our neighborhood who could be negatively impacted by this – we are making the decision to close the restaurants for today – Sunday 3/15. We want to be there to celebrate and offer an ‘escape’ to our community at this time, but we recognize that it is simply not a responsible decision. Our hours of operation will be determined day-to-day, so please follow along with us on social media and we will keep you updated every step of the way.
Wishing everyone stays well and safe – and we’ll be ready to celebrate big time on the other side of this.

In what is usually one of the busiest & best days of the year, we are choosing to close our doors. We don’t know what the next couple weeks have in store yet, but as soon as we know we will inform you. Thank you for your understanding and everyone stay safe and healthy.

L Street Tavern
Sullivan’s Castle Island
Dorgan’s Liquor Store
We have a feeling many more restaurants and businesses will be following suit. It’s important for us to support them in safe ways – ordering takeout, buying gift cards to use in the future. Please check back for updates.
