Looks like City Councilor-at-Large Annissa Essaibi George will throw her hat in the ring for Mayor of Boston. Essaibi George is a Dorchester native, small business owner and mother of four. The 47-year-old is expected to announce her candidacy on Thursday morning joining two other women – both City Councilor-at-Large Michelle Wu and City Councilor Andrea Campbell
The Dorchester Reporter has a profile on Essaibi George that you can read here.
Things are heating up
With the announcement of Mayor Marty Walsh leaving for Washington DC as US Labor Secretary, City Council President Kim Janey will become acting Mayor of Boston.
There’s also a special election situation that has arisen. If Walsh leaves before March 5th, the city would have to hold a special election this year, in addition to the regularly scheduled municipal elections coming up in September and November.
City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo is hoping to override a special election if Walsh leaves before March 5th and has filed a Home Rule Petition. This is has opened up many legal questions which is currently being hashed out in the City Council.
Other names being circulated include City Councilor-At-Large Michael Flaherty, State Senator Nick Collins, and even BPD Commissioner William Gross.
So we shall see! Stayed tuned for more #Bospoli excitement!
