From BPD News:

At about 7:23 PM on Monday, September 26, 2022, Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) responded to a call for a group of scooters causing a disturbance in the area of Helen Street in Dorchester.  Officers subsequently arrested Austilino Pereira, 21, of Dorchester on motor-vehicle violations, and a 14-year-old juvenile male of Dorchester on firearm charges.

Officers were on directed patrol in the area mentioned above due to scooters that were in the area threatening bystanders while clutching their waist areas.  Upon arrival, Officers observed a scooter fleeing the area.

Officers activated their emergency lights signaling for the moped operator to pull over.  The operator of the moped refused to stop, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and weaving in and out of oncoming traffic, causing multiple motorists to abruptly stop to avoid being struck by the moped in order to get away from officers.

Officers converged on the area and began searching for the males, eventually locating the 14-year-old juvenile male hiding underneath a parked car and locating Pereira in a nearby park.  Officers located a discarded firearm along the flight path of the suspects.

The firearm was determined to be a Taurus G2C with one (1) live in the chamber, and seven (7) live rounds in the magazine.

The 14-year-old juvenile male is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester Juvenile Court on charges of delinquent to wit: Unlawful Possession of a firearm, Unlawful possession of ammunition, Carrying a loaded firearm, and Possession of burglarious tools.

Pereira is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Failure to Stop for a police officer, Negligent operation of a motor vehicle, Uninsured Motor-Vehicle, Wrong way on a one-way, Unregistered Motor-Vehicle, and Operating without a helmet.
