About 2:42am on Saturday, February 6, 2021, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) conducted a traffic stop which resulted in a firearm arrest in the area of 883 Blue Hill Avenue.

While in the area of Harvard Street and Blue Hill Avenue, the officers observed a motor vehicle with excessive tint make a right turn onto Harvard Street. Further inquiry into this vehicle revealed that it was both unregistered and uninsured. The officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop at 192 Harvard Street, Dorchester.

The officers spoke with the operator, later identified as Danasiaha Edwards22 of Dorchester, and informed her of the vehicle’s status. A query of Edwards license revealed that it was suspended. The officers informed Edwards and her passengers that she would be arrested and that the motor vehicle would be towed.

The officers approached the rear passenger, later identified as Tavarge Thomas23 of Dorchester, and requested him to exit the vehicle several times. Thomas leaned forward and demanded that the officers tell him the address of the stop. The officers answered him more than once, and opened the door demanding him to exit. As the officer prepared to pat frisk Thomas, he fled on foot down Harvard Street towards Blue Hill Avenue. Thomas continued on Blue Hill Avenue where he slipped on ice in front of 870 Blue Hill Avenue, where he was secured.

Officers retraced Thomas’s flight path, and discovered a black Heckler & Koch firearm in the driveway of 222 Harvard Street.

Tavarge Thomas was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm.

The operator of the motor vehicle, Danasiaha Edwards, was placed under arrest and charged with Operating After Suspension and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle was mailed a MA Uniform Citation for Allowing Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Allowing Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Allowing Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Excessive Tint.

The other two occupants of the motor vehicle were identified and released.
