A speeding car on Morrissey Boulevard leads to two people arrested for illegal firearm and failure to wear a seatbelt.  You can’t be speeding and not wear your seatbelt!

See police report below:

Saturday July 28 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Trooper Brendan Murphy, assigned to State Police-South Boston, was conducting speed enforcement on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester. He observed a Pontiac Grand Am traveling 60 miles per hour where the posted speed limit is only 30 miles per hour. Trooper Murphy caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop as they entered Kosciuszko Circle just prior to Day Boulevard.

Upon stopping the vehicle Trooper Murphy began to approach the driver’s side window and noticed two occupants seated inside. He stopped his approach as he observed the passenger attempting to hide something under his seat. He immediately requested backup and Trooper Stephen Taylor responded moments later. Trooper Murphy informed the operator, identified as ANTONIO SAEZ, 24, of Chicopee, why he was stopped and gathered identification for both occupants. Through subsequent investigation on scene it was discovered that the passenger, identified as ANTHONY CANDELARIO, 33, of Roxbury, was wanted on a warrant out of Boston Municipal Court.

Troopers Murphy and Taylor removed both occupants from the vehicle and located a black bag under the seat where CANDELARIO was seated. This bag, which was partially open, contained a silver Smith & Wesson 1911 pistol loaded with six rounds of .45 caliber ammunition. Neither SAEZ nor CANDELARIO possess a license to carry firearms.

Both men were placed under arrest then transported to SP South Boston where they were booked and had bail set in the amount of $50,000. They were arraigned today at Dorchester District Court on the following charges.

  1. Illegal Possession of a Firearm 2nd offense;
  2. Possession of a Firearm without FID Card Subsequent Offense;
  3. Improper Storage of a Firearm;
  4. Speeding; and
  5. Failure to Wear Seatbelt.
