Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) arrested a 14-year-old male on firearm-related charges early Monday morning following a field investigation at Harambe Park in Dorchester.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. on Monday, July 20, officers assigned from District B-3 conducted directed patrols in the area of 930 Blue Hill Avenue in response to a recent increase in firearm-related violence in the surrounding area.

Officers observed a group of approximately 20 individuals gathered in the park after posted operating hours, in violation of City of Boston Parks and Recreation regulations. As officers approached, one individual separated himself from the group and began walking away while looking back at officers. Officers observed the individual guarding his waistband, consistent with behavior associated with carrying a concealed firearm.

Officers conducted a field interview and pat frisk of the individual, during which a firearm was recovered from his waistband. The firearm was determined to be a black Sig Sauer P250 with a defaced serial number, loaded with 13 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber.

He was transported to District B-2 for booking and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:

• Carrying a Firearm Without a License
• Possession of Ammunition Without a Firearm Identification Card
• Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
• Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
• Possession of an Untraceable Firearm in Commission of a Felony
• Receiving an Untraceable Firearm
• Trespassing
