WCVB is reporting that an 11-year-old boy is undergoing surgery after he was mauled by a pit bull in the neighborhood of Davidson Ave. and Rockfield Terrace around 12:09pm on Wednesday.
Boston Police Commissioner William Gross held a press conference and stated that an off-duty BPD officer intervened upon seeing the dog attacking the child and fired his department-issued gun to stop the attack.
The boy was taken to an area hospital by Boston EMS for injuries to his neck, arm and groin. Two dogs have been detained by authorities.
