Suspect Charged with Possession of a Machine Gun After Arrest in Dorchester

At approximately 1:38 AM on Sunday, October 25, 2026, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted a traffic stop that led to the arrest of 25-year-old Takhari Walter Robinson in the area of Dorchester Avenue and Van Winkle Street in Dorchester.

While in the area of the aforementioned location for a prior call for a person with a gun, officers observed a white motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed down Washington Street. Officers further observed the vehicle to have heavily tinted windows. The vehicle continued to speed onto Dorchester Avenue from Talbot Avenue.

Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Dorchester Avenue and Van Winkle Street. As officers approached the vehicle, they observed the operator leaning forward towards the driver’s side mirror and the rear driver’s side window had a sunshade rendering officers unable to see into the rear of the vehicle. Officers spoke to the operator to inform him of the reason for the stop. The operator stated he was leaving a party on Washington Street, which was the same location as the prior radio call for a person with a gun. The operator stated he was returning to his home in East Boston, but officers had observed the vehicle traveling throughout Dorchester with no intention of driving towards East Boston.

The operator was issued an exit order from the vehicle to which he complied. Officers located a firearm underneath the driver’s seat. The suspect was taken into custody.

The firearm was determined to be a Glock 20 10mm handgun with an attached sear-switch (making the firearm capable of automatic fire) loaded with fifteen rounds of live ammunition in a high capacity magazine.

Robinson, of East Boston, is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Possession of a Loaded Machine Gun, Possession of a Machine Gun, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. Additionally, Robinson was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for violating the auto laws.
