Franklin Park Zoo’s Last Lion, Dinari, Dies at 17
Franklin Park Zoo has announced the death of Dinari, its last remaining lion. He was 17 years old.
According to the Boston Globe, Dinari was humanely euthanized after his health rapidly declined. He had been experiencing lethargy, loss of appetite, and chronic kidney failure.
Dinari arrived at Franklin Park Zoo in 2015 with his brother, Kamaia, who died in 2023. The two lions had been longtime residents of the zoo and a familiar sight for visitors.
With Dinari’s passing, Franklin Park Zoo is now without lions. Zoo officials say they hope to bring lions back to the Dorchester zoo in the future.
