Unauthorized Bike Lane Markings Raise Safety Concerns at Busy Boston Intersection
A busy Boston intersection is once again raising safety concerns following another crash involving a scooter.
According to NBC10 Boston, Boston City Councilor Erin Murphy has filed an emergency hearing order regarding the intersection of Tremont and Parker streets in Mission Hill. The move comes after a person riding a scooter was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning. The scooter rider suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver was issued a citation.
The intersection is the same location where Boston transportation planner Louisa Gag was struck and killed while riding her bike in July.
Adding to the concerns are makeshift bike lane markings that recently appeared at the intersection. Murphy says the markings are unauthorized and is questioning whether they could be causing confusion for drivers, cyclists, and scooter riders.
Murphy is calling for the city and community to take a closer look at safety at the intersection and what changes may be needed.
