USS Constitution is scheduled to get underway on Friday, August 28th from Charlestown Navy Yard at 10:00 A.M. The cruise will be visible from the Boston Harborwalk, Castle Island, and Charlestown Navy Yard. A 21-gun salute will be fired at approximately 11:30 A.M., viewable from Fort Independence on Castle Island. This sail will honor and celebrate the legacy, leadership, and service of U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officers. While you’re out there, you might as well pick up some lunch at Sully’s, right?

Public Art Floating in Dorchester Bay

Have you seen it? There’s a new piece of public art floating in Dorchester Bay! Boston-area artist crystal bi’s perfect memory is now on view just off the Harborwalk at UMass Boston through September 11 as part of the Boston Public Art Triennial. Made from locally harvested bamboo and flowing fabric, the sculpture moves with the tides and is designed as a place for reflection, remembrance, and imagination, drawing its title from Toni Morrison’s essay “The Site of Memory.”  Get all the details here.

Soft Serve Margaritas at Yellow Door Taqueria

Yellow Door Taqueria announced that its wildly popular soft-serve margaritas will now be featured at its Dorchester location. They are $16, with rotating flavors! You can also add a shot of Don Julio tequila for +$8. These Soft Serve Margaritas are available for both dine-in and takeout!

B.O.L.D. Teens Present Movie Night

Kick off the weekend with a free outdoor Movie Night hosted by B.O.L.D. Teens on Friday, August 28th at 8pm at Dr. Loesch Family Park (20 Wainwright St, Dorchester). This week’s feature is Princess and the Frog (with a special surprise guest at 6PM!), and the event is all ages, with free popcorn and snacks provided. Just bring a blanket or chair to sit on. Get your hot pants and sequins ready!

Get ready to dance the night away! The 12th Annual Donna Summer Disco Party returns to City Hall Plaza on Friday, August 28, from 5pm–9pm. This free, family-friendly celebration will feature all of Donna Summer’s greatest hits, plus glow sticks, bubbles, colorful lights, a disco ball, and roller skating right on City Hall Plaza. DJ Vince1 will be spinning Donna Summer favorites along with more disco classics. Boston-born disco legend Donna Summer was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a five-time Grammy winner, and sold over 140 million records worldwide. She was born in Dorchester and was raised in Mission Hill before rising to stardom in the 1970s. She passed away at the age of 62 years old on May 17, 2012. This annual event honors her life and celebrates her music and legacy in Boston!
