BPD Community Alert: Law Enforcement Imposter Scam Reported in Dorchester

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) took a report of a law enforcement imposter scam in which the suspect falsely claimed to be a member of the Boston Police Department.

According to the report, the victim received a phone call from (617) 634-5528, during which the caller identified himself as a Boston Police Sergeant and stated that the victim owed money for a court-related matter. The victim was instructed to send payments through Zelle to additional phone numbers provided by the caller. The victim ultimately sent two separate payments.

The Boston Police Department reminds community members that we will never call and request money, banking information, or electronic transfers as part of any investigation or court matter.

Protect Yourself from Scams:

  • Be cautious of unsolicited phone calls from individuals claiming to represent law enforcement or government agencies.
  • Do not send money or share personal information in response to suspicious calls.
  • Verify the legitimacy of the caller by contacting the agency directly through an official number.
  • Report suspicious activity to the Boston Police Department by visiting or calling any Boston Police District, or call 911 in an emergency.
