Choose Kindness!
On Sunday, October 21st head to the IBEW – 256 Freeport Street, from 11-2 pm for the Martin Richard Foundation Autumn Service Day! It’s a great opportunity to come together as a community and serve others! It’s a family-friendly event that features hands-on service activities, food, and live music.
The day will include 3 shifts of hands-on service activities. You will be assigned to a team and will rotate through 3 service stations while learning about our partnering organizations and the populations that they serve. At each service station, your group will be split to cover the activities available.
Station 1: Assemble essential items into literacy bags for elementary school children as part of the Foundation’s Initiative to advance our values of sportsmanship, inclusion, kindness, and Peace through reading.
Station 2: Assemble hygiene kits with Hope and Comfort Inc.; Make fleece blankets for homeless shelters.
Station 3: Make Sleeping Mats for the Homeless with ‘Plarn’ made from plastic shopping bags; Assemble winter kits for those that are homeless; Create handmade, reusable bags with Boomerang Bags Boston.

Autumn Service Day is a part of the Martin Richard Foundation’s year-long commitment to serving those in need. A vital component of this campaign is our Serve With Us program which offers the opportunity for individuals to come together to serve and engage with others to better our communities. Autumn Service Day is a three-hour event in Dorchester where we will lead several service projects while sharing why these efforts are crucial to our local communities to thrive and grow. Volunteers in attendance will participate in meaningful hands-on service projects and engage in their own service learning through programming reflective of the mission of the Martin Richard Foundation.
The Martin Richard Foundation provides opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and lead through volunteerism and community engagement. We look to advance sportsmanship, inclusion, kindness, and peace. By encouraging people to choose kindness, work for inclusion, and embrace diversity in local communities, we aim to influence a generation to live out our values through positive civic engagement. Community engagement shows its effects over time, not overnight. When we work to better our communities, we better our future.
The Martin Richard Foundation’s core values are kindness, compassion, humility, and gratitude. When we serve the community, we celebrate and live these values and are role models for others.
