Save the date! Commemorating 100 years of Dorchester’s original movie palace, The Strand (1918 – 2018) it’s the Dorchester Short Film Festival on October 25th from 7:30pm-9:30pm. Enjoy a rare opportunity to experience a fast-paced line-up of comedy, drama, action, and animation. Films are presented in two acts with an intermission, showcasing an eclectic combination of Oscar nominees, Sundance winners, Aspen Shorts winners, US Film Festival “Best of Show” winners/runner ups, and International honorees. Suitable for ages 16 and up. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here!
Women in History! The Dorchester Historical Society will host a special event to highlight the role of the Woman Suffrage movement in Massachusetts. Barbara Berenson, author of Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement, will be discussing her book and highlight some of the prominent suffrage activists from before the Civil War, such as Lucy Stone, who lived on Boutwell Street and was considered a major voice in the movement. The first National Woman’s Rights Convention held in Worcester in 1850 was organized by some of these women! The event will be taking place next Sunday, October 14th 2018 from 2PM to 4PM, at the Dorchester Historical Society – 195 Boston St. This is event is free and open to the public. You can RSVP here!
