You wouldn’t know it by looking at all the building happening the neighborhood, but we’re in the midst of a housing crisis. 15 mayors from the Greater Boston area have decided to put the pedal to the metal when it comes to constructing new homes.
According to Tim Logan in an article in the Boston Globe, the goal is to add 185,000 new homes by 2030 to keep up with the population growth that is causing the prices of housing to go up, up, up!
This new pledge is part of the same plan Mayor Marty Walsh explained last week and revealed the City of Boston would increase its new housing goal by 30% which means an additional $69,000 units by 2030.
So where are the towns and cities that will be building these homes? Arlington, Boston, Braintree, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Newton, Quincy, Revere, Somerville, and Winthrop.
