It’s tax free weekend in Massachusetts! As we all know that can be both a time to get some great discounts, and a nightmare in a crowded store. Luckily, City of Boston Credit Union has a few quick tips for you to get the most out of your money!

Know the rules!
Although the state tax will be exempt on most items like clothing, electronics, furniture etc, certain types of products are not included in this weekend’s potential savings. If you’re planning on dining out tonight, don’t expect a cheaper meal. Eating out, as well as purchasing a vehicle or tobacco product will all still have their usual 6.25% state tax. Also, any individual item over $2,500 will be excluded from the tax-free savings as well. Keep this in mind when you plan your lists for the weekend!

It’s a great time to go back to school shopping!
It’s that time of year again when everyone is getting ready to head back to school or send the kids off. Unfortunately with this time usually comes a hefty supply list. Buying pens, notebooks, binders, clothes, and tissues for the class can really add up! Utilize this weekend to get a bit more bang for your buck and load up now. Clothes under $175 will all be tax-exempt, so pick up a first day outfit while you can save!

Shop local!
With this weekend of savings it can be easy to find yourself back at the big department stores, but it’s also a great time to support our local businesses!  You will find the same savings at our local shops, and it’s a perfect opportunity to contribute to the community and keep neighborhood businesses strong. Make sure to stop by your favorite store and see where you can save!

Enjoy your weekend of savings, and we hope you can make the most of it! More information can be found here!

Have a safe, and great weekend!
