Dorchester is Boston’s largest neighborhood so there are plenty of ways to get outside in the beautiful weather!  We’ve rounded up our favorite places and activities to get you outside after this long, long winter!

Outdoor dining spots in the neighborhood

We realize that many of our outdoor patios have disappeared for the winter but there’s still some “hot spots” nestled in the neighborhood! We’ve teamed up with the dynamic sister duo of @heat_ya_seat– to find the best heated outdoor dining options! Now more than ever, our local restaurants need our support! Check out our roundup!

Savin Hill Beach

Also affectionately known as Malibu beach, Savin Hill Beach is a prime location for some fresh air and sunshine. You’ll find multiple ball fields, a playground, bathhouses and a picturesque boardwalk just minutes from the city. This location is a popular dog walking location and has a large parking lot.

Columbia Point

Columbia Point is a personal favorite when I’m craving some salty ocean air. Columbia Point is located on the JFK UMASS campus. It connects with the Boston Harborwalk providing you with miles and miles of fresh air and ocean views. Columbia Point was the landing place for Puritan settlers in the early 1600s – fun fact!

Tenean Beach

We might be getting a head of ourselves. It might not be quite warm enough for a beach day but, Tenean Beach is more than just a beach. There are tennis courts, a playground, and basketball courts! Plenty of options to get you outside!

Franklin Park Zoo

I’ll admit. I always forget that Franklin Park Zoo is actually in Dorchester! Just a testament to how large and diverse our neighborhood actually is. Franklin Park itself encompasses 72 acres! And is home to kangaroos, giraffes, zebras and more! The zoo is definitely one of the more popular destinations for families interested in spending some time outdoors.

Dorchester Park

Another surprisingly large outdoor space is Dorchester Park. This park includes swings and scenic pathways. Providing a quiet escape for the residents of Dorchester. The park is also designated an Historic Landmark – it was first established in 1891!  Keep an eye out for the Dorchester Goats!

The Neponset River Greenway

This trails runs 5 + miles from Dorchester into Milton. The trail connects a series of parks and provides an exciting opportunity to appreciate the outdoors in an otherwise urban area. This trail is perfect for walking, biking, running and rollerblading!
