Whether your planning on running a marathon or giving running as a workout a try in 2019, our friends at the Dorchester Running Club share their favorite routes!  The DRC meets Saturdays at 7am for a weekly run.  You can either show up or sign up here!

The DRC standard route:
Our Saturday group runs start at 7am at Garvey Park and we have a 5 miler we like to do together. Starting off down the flat Gallivan Blvd off Neponset, take a left on Adams towards the beautiful Cedar Grove Cemetery and head down to Lower Mills. Curving along Adams we go through the Baker Chocolate Factory and over the Neponset River towards our favorite frenemy – Hutchinson Hill – where we push to the top to reach 2.5 miles and a beautiful view of Boston. During marathon training you will catch some of our members doing hill reps here on Wednesday mornings, up and down, building resistance for Heartbreak Hill.

The Neponset Trail:
One of our favorites, which we even use as our race route during our Halfway to Dot Day 5k, the Neponset Trail is pretty, flat and even longer thanks to the newly opened extension into Mattapan Square. We tend to run this a lot during the summer, when daylight is on our side for morning and evening runs, and spent a lot of time on it during our 2017 Summer Run Series which started and ended in various bars in Adams Village Thursday nights. This is also a fun route for biking and bringing the family along. I think we have seen every type of bird, bunnies and even deer on the trail, and it’s a quiet break off the streets and away from cars when you need that type of run.

The Harborwalk:
For extra miles and an ocean view, head down Morrisey Blvd and along the Harborwalk behind UMass and the JFK Library. The views of the water and our famed gas tank can’t be beat and during the warmer months there are water fountains to use along the way. When we need those long miles we head down Day Blvd and into L Street’s territory, but don’t tell them
Special thanks to Stefanie O’Shea from The Dorchester Running Club!
