Early voting

The early voting period for the 2022 Municipal Election takes place from Saturday, October 22, through Friday, November 4. During that time, voters registered in Boston will be able to cast their ballots in person before the Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 8.

Any voter registered in Boston can vote at any early voting location. You don’t need an excuse or reason to vote early. Learn more about early voting.

Mail-in ballots

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is 5pm on Nov. 1.

  • Each ballot includes paid postage so you can return it by mail.
  • If you’ve already received your ballot, mail it ASAP. Election clerks will count ballots that come in as late as Nov. 12, but only if they’re postmarked by Election Day.
  • Check the status of your mail-in ballot through the state’s Track My Ballot webpage.

Still need to Register?

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 29. You can check your registration status here.

Axios Boston has an awesome breakdown of who is on the ballot and the scoop on the 4 (kinda confusing) questions on the ballot.  You can check it out here.
